Why Are Floor Markings Important For Lean Management?

Warehouses and factories more often than not are home to high levels of footfall or traffic from heavy (and dangerous) machinery. To ensure the safety of yourself and your employees, you must ensure that the correct safety signage and floor markings are in place to ensure risks are minimised and your warehouse stays organised. Regulations in the UK state that you must have clear routes for both pedestrians and vehicles – this is where floor line marking tape comes in. It doesn’t just stop there though – other signs should be displayed on the floor to communicate key messages without the need for unnecessary conversations. This could look like colour-coordinated shaped outlining where items must be stored, or a warning at the entrance of an area where hardhats must be worn.

At Orgatex UK, we have over twenty years of experience in lean management and visual communication, and we’ve developed a range of products to help you operate in an effective (and safe) manner. Coloured Labelling

Walking routes and storage areas should be coloured differently according to their function, and this is standard practice with lean manufacturing. This provides the following benefits:

Colour identification of storage areas provides an overview of goods availability. As the material should only be placed in clearly identified areas, it also helps reduce inventories.
Coloured marking of vehicle routes, pathways and hazard areas increases workplace safety and makes compliance with regulations easier.
Colours can match up with existing warehouse processes, eliminating the need for unnecessary, time-wasting conversations.
